At Metis ("we," "us," or "our"), we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

This policy applies to all users of the Metis platform at usemetis.co.

We collect the following types of information:

Account Information — Name, email address, and authentication details when you sign up.

Competitor Data — URLs and company names you add to track. We analyze publicly available information from these sources.

Usage Data — How you interact with Metis: pages visited, features used, actions taken. This helps us improve the product.

Payment Information — When you subscribe to a paid plan, payment details are processed directly by Stripe. We never store your full credit card number.

Device & Browser Info — IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers for security and analytics purposes.

We use your information to:

• Provide the Service — Deliver competitor intelligence, generate AI-powered insights, and manage your account
• AI Analysis — Process publicly available competitor data through our AI to generate battle cards, recommendations, and summaries
• Improve the Product — Understand usage patterns to build better features and fix issues
• Communicate — Send you important updates, competitor alerts, and (with your permission) product news
• Security — Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access

We do not sell your personal data. Ever.

Metis integrates with trusted third-party services to operate. Each has their own privacy policy:

• Supabase — Authentication, database, and file storage
• Stripe — Payment processing and subscription management
• Anthropic (Claude) — AI analysis of competitor data to generate insights
• Resend — Transactional emails (alerts, notifications, account emails)
• PostHog — Product analytics (anonymized usage data)
• Vercel — Application hosting and delivery

We only share the minimum data necessary with each provider for them to perform their function.

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account:

• Personal data is deleted within 30 days
• Competitor tracking data is deleted immediately
• Anonymized, aggregated analytics may be retained (this data cannot identify you)
• Billing records are retained as required by law (typically 7 years)

We use cookies and similar technologies for:

• Essential cookies — Authentication, session management, security (always active)
• Analytics cookies — Understanding how Metis is used to improve the product
• Preference cookies — Remembering your settings like theme preference

We do not use advertising cookies or sell data to advertisers. You can manage cookies through your browser settings.

You have the right to:

• Access — Request a copy of all data we hold about you
• Correct — Update or fix inaccurate data
• Delete — Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Export — Download your data in a portable format
• Restrict — Limit how we process your data
• Object — Opt out of certain data processing activities

If you're in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights under GDPR:

• We process data based on legitimate interest (providing the Service) and your consent
• You can withdraw consent at any time
• You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
• Data transfers outside the EEA are protected by Standard Contractual Clauses

If you're a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you additional rights:

• Right to know what personal information we collect and how it's used
• Right to delete your personal information
• Right to opt out of the sale of personal information — though we don't sell your data
• Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews. While no system is 100% secure, we take reasonable steps to protect your data.

Metis is not intended for use by anyone under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of Metis after changes constitutes acceptance.
